Subject: Mooring cruise report 1Coasters:
The mooring deployment cruise (W0103A) left on schedule on 11 Jan at 1000. The weather was not ideal. Sustained 30+ knots of wind, rain, and significant sea and swell. We did manage to deploy the Met mooring. In the evening we did an ADCP survey along the 45 deg N line seaward of the Met buoy.
On 12 Jan the weather was greatly improved: wind below 15 knots averaging about 7 knots!, the sea state was calm as well, and no rain. We deployed the other 3 moorings without incident working from 8am to 5:30pm. This evening we are in the process of repeating the ADCP line along 45deg. Then we will head south to the Newport line and come in to Mike Kosro's Globec mooring by first light. A decision will be made at that time if he wants to try to recover and deploy the mooring in a different location.
Mooring locations:
Inner shelf (DNI): 45deg 0.248'N; 124deg 4.097'W water depth = 50m
Mid Shelf (DNM): 45deg 0.250'N; 124deg 8.665'W, water depth = 96m
Met Buoy (DMet): 45deg 0.24'N; 124 9.62'
Shelf Break (DNB): 45deg 0.257'N; 124deg 12.704'W, water depth = 129mAs advertised, there are relatively few crab pots along the 45 deg line at least seaward of DNM. The moorings were put to the northern edge of the 45 deg line in order to leave a clean path for Seasoar along 45deg.
