Wecoma report 4-5 June
Wecoma continues to work off Cascade Head, doing repeated SeaSoar/ADCP/HTI/iron/nutrient sampling along the CH line and along the 50 fm contour. On Monday (4 June) wind was very light and we observed a thin layer of very low salinity, Columbia-influenced water. Late in the afternoon we made a quick port stop in Newport to exchange personnel. We then returned to the Cascade Head area and resumed the butterfly pattern sampling. Today (Tues, 5 June) a strong downwelling favorable wind (up to 30 knots) event occured and we observed deepening of the mixed layer and downwelling near the coast. We plan to complete one last repeat of the butterfly pattern by tomorrow (Wed) morning and then to conduct a CTD+iron/MOCNESS/TAPS profile section along the CH line. We then hope to do one repeat of the butterfly pattern before starting a Bigbox survey sometime Thursday.
