Thomspon report May 21
Here's a summary for the last three days May 19-21.
19 May Chameleon cross section 01 CH line
ADCP survey
Chameleon cross section 02 CH line + optics
20 May ADCP survey
Chameleon cross section 03 CH line + optics + chemistry (part way)
ADCP survey
Fixed depth pump station CH-1 (five depths sampled)
Chameleon cross sectin 04 CH line + optics + chemistry
21 May Fixed depth pump station (about CH-7, offshore, 12 depths sampled)
ADCP survey
FRRF (Letelier) time series CH-1
Fixed depth pump station CH-1 (five depths)
Chameleon cross section 05 CH line + optics + chemistry
Other comments: cross sections from CH-1 to CH-6 or 7 take about 11 hours. We do these from inshore to offshore then do ADCP at about 1 knot and then return to shore at 10 knots doing an ADCP survey. The jet has broadened and moved offshore. The bottom boundary layer has thickened (from about 5 m to 15 m in some places) and appears to be moving up the shelf. So far we have been keeping the profiling pump above 100 m. On this cross section for every third profile or so, we plan to bring in the Chameleon and then take the pump close to the bottom. Will probably remain along the CH line for a few more days. We will try to sample some chemistry (including Fe) for a profile over the regions with the thick bottom boundary layer. Tonight we will do a mid-line fixed depth pump station(between CH-3 and CH-5).
More tomorrow.
